CONFIGURATION AND DEPLOYMENT
PenVasc is a powerful, easy to use, enterprise-wide relational database application with an extremely high level of flexibility. As a client/server database application, the back-end database contains all of the patient and exam data, along with the global settings and criteria. The database is installed on a networked SQL server. The front-end of the application contains the user interface (forms, reports, queries, etc.) and is programmed using Microsoft Access. Upon installation a run-time version of MS Access is installed. To take full advantage of the built-in PDF viewer, Adobe Acrobat Reader is also required and will be installed.

PenVasc takes full advantage of the security protocols built into SQL server. User and server roles can be established to allow full or limited access to the database based on the users’ Active Directory Group assignment.

SUPPORTED PLATFORMS AND REQUIRED HARDWARE
PenVasc is also compatible with virtualized environments from VMware and Microsoft.

PenVasc requires an application/file server to support network file storage requirements and a test environment. A virtual machine works well in this instance and would be used for the following:

•  Application Services (HL7 and DICOM SR Interfaces) can run independent of other    client workstations.
•  Saving images and sketches externally. PenVasc is capable of storing pictures and    sketches either in the database or a networked file server. Storing the files externally    will minimize the size of the database.
•  PenVasc is installed for support and maintenance purposes. Database patches can
be run from this machine as well.
•  Updates to client workstations can be pushed from this machine.
•  The installation files can be stored for future implementations.
